Martin Feinberg, Realtor, notes that the announcement of Apple’s new office is great news to the Culver City Chamber of Commerce.

Colin Diaz of the Chamber of Commerce stated, “It’s not just the amount of jobs, it’s the type of jobs, you know, what it’ll do to the local economy as far as those employees who are going to need services throughout the day and after work.”The new jobs are likely to be a mix of technology in digital music and video programming, as those are the two areas where Apple is expanding in order to better compete with Spotify and Netflix.

A statement by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said, “Talent, creativity and tomorrow’s breakthrough ideas aren’t limited by region or zip code, and, with this new expansion, we’re redoubling our commitment to cultivating the high-tech sector and workforce nationwide.”

The Culver City location is right next to a Metro station, with a mixture of restaurants and apartments nearby. Though that is good news for the city, some residents are concerned about the new Apple office’s effect on affordability and also traffic.

“There’s a lot of development around and that is addressing housing. Workforce housing is something that is always something to look at, and I think it will also influence future development,” Diaz said.

Local listing agent Martin Feinberg notes that there is no announcement yet on when the new office will open or when Apple will begin hiring for those new jobs.  The company has stated that it expects to create 20,000 new jobs in the U.S. by the year 2023 though.
