Sony Set to Bring Lisbeth Salander Back to Life

Sony Pictures Entertainment, which is headquartered in Culver City and helps make Culver City Real Estate such an amazing place to find a home, announced it will be adapting another Lisbeth Salander novel for the big screen. “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is set for release in October of 2018 and principal photography is will begin this September. The announcement was made at the London Book Fair. Martin Feinberg, Culver City Realtor, is excited for the next installment in this franchise.

Sony has yet to find the actress that will play Salander, but Fede Alvarez, who directed the 2016 film “Don’t Breathe,” will be the director. Alvarez, along with Steven Knight and Jay Basu, will also write the screenplay.

According to Columbia Pictures President Sanford Panitch, “Fede is an amazing director with a unique vision of the world. In particular, his talent and skill in creating psychological intensity will bring Lisbeth Salander back into popular movie culture with a roar.”

“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is the first book in the series created by Stieg Larsson to be produced into an English-language film in its first adaptation. A previous book, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” was an American remake of a Swedish film and other books have only been adapted into Swedish-language films. Though “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” has the same main character as “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, the movie will have a completely new cast.

“In all of contemporary literature, Lisbeth Salander is…probably one of the greatest female literary characters of all time in my view,” Panitch claims. “Modern punk defiance personified, she is unforgettable in every incarnation, truly one of the most compelling characters we’ve seen in recent years.”

Martin Feinberg, Realtor, looks forward to seeing how Sony and Alvarez will bring Lisbeth Salander to life once again.
