Culver City has joined the South Bay Regional Communications Center, also known as the Regional Communications Center or RCC, at the recommendation of the local Police and Fire departments. The move to the center is meant to improve public safety services. This move will also serve to make Culver City Real Estate safer as well, which Martin Feinberg, Culver City Realtor, appreciates.
By moving to the RCC, Culver City residents will have access to faster 911 call processing and emergency medical dispatching. The city will also gain enhanced 911 for mobile phones. This improvement is possible because the RCC’s equipment has the ability to track 911 calls using GPS coordinates. According to the City, “this is an important feature as many cellphone callers have difficulty describing their location if they are not at home.”
The RCC handles about 250,000 police and fire incidents each year and currently serves the cities of Hawthorne, Gardena, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, and Hermosa Beach. Culver City officials stated, “The RCC is considered to be an industry leader in this region with state of the art facilities, top notch equipment, unparalleled training, and exemplary service to the communities in which they serve.”
The move to the RCC was effective at the beginning of this month. Martin Feinberg, Realtor, was glad to hear that most of Culver City’s dispatchers joined the staff of the RCC though some did choose to stay with the city in different positions. A few opted for early retirement though, according to the City.
