Culver City Asking for Input on their Transit Oriented Development

Lately, some of those changes have been focused on the Expo Line Station area. In response to those modifications and their affect on the community, Culver City is collecting suggestions on Transit Oriented Development (TOD). The city is doing this by holding TOD Visioning Plan Workshops.

TOD Visioning Plan Workshops are, according to the city website, about working with the community to “envision and improve Culver City’s mobility.”   The city is looking for residents and others to attend workshops and share “experiences and perceptions to help build a vision for an even better Culver City.”

The city will be holding monthly workshops between now and August, which are designed to help community members collaborate on perceived problems and possible solutions. For those unable to attend workshops, an interactive website is available at www.culvertodvision.org.

The target area under study right now is the area within the half-mile walk and three-mile biking radiuses from the Culver City Expo Station. Some parts of Culver City Real Estate may be affected.

One workshop has already been held and much was accomplished. The City’s website states, “Our first workshop focused on hearing from the 60+ participants about what makes Culver City special and what forces or factors are challenging Culver City today.  We also looked together at how well the city is performing along a number of dimensions related to mobility.”

Martin Feinberg, Realtor, agrees that there is still a lot to do for the city to reach its goals.

According to the city’s latest press release, “The TOD Visioning Study’s goal is to understand how to evolve the City into a ‘Transit Oriented Community’ where people continue to drive less and walk, bike, and take transit more. This innovative Transit Oriented Development framework could become a model for the larger Los Angeles region.”

The next workshop will be held on June 15 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Veteran’s Memorial Building. It is titled “Review of Preliminary Recommendations.” The final workshop will take place on July 6th.
