According to Exalted Ruler (ER) Thomas Konkel, the Culver City Elks Lodge #1917 held their annual Dictionary Program last week. During this yearly occasion lodge volunteers travel to various schools in the area and present 3rd graders with their own brand new dictionaries.
Previous Exalted Ruler (PER) Marilyn Marble led this year’s event. Martin Feinberg, Culver City Realtor, was happy to learn that over 1000 dictionaries were delivered to 13 West Los Angeles schools. PER Marble was joined by PER Roy Johnson and Blanca Meza. School principals and teachers were also on hand to help support the Elks in their endeavor.
The Dictionary Program is part of the “Elks Care, Elks Share” philosophy of the Lodge. It is one of many different community outreach programs supported by the Elkdom. Culver City Lodge #1917 has been donating dictionaries to local schools, including those within the Culver City Real Estate area, for over ten years.
Martin Feinberg, Realtor, was not aware that Elks lodges have a long history in the United States and believe strongly in supporting their communities, especially the youth.
Per their website, it is the Elks’ mission “to inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share.”
