February is right around the corner and it is bringing plenty of volunteer opportunities with it for the Culver City area. Martin Feinberg, Realtor, is proud to work in a community that understands the value of working together for the greater good. Those who wish to help serve next month can choose from a few different options.
Cali Rose and the CC Strummers is a local Senior Center group that uses ukuleles and the Aloha spirit to bring happiness to local communities. The group is comprised of 60 ukulele players who perform frequently at the Senior Center and also the Fiesta La Ballona, as well as other smaller shows. They are known for their performances at the Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA, where they sing for the children, their families, and the staff. They also donate ukuleles so the children can learn to play while they are staying in the hospital. The group also performs regularly at the Opica Adult Day Care Center in West Los Angeles and offers a ukulele class at the Mar Vista Middle School for students who would like to learn how to play. For those who aren’t so musically inclined, the Culver City Rain Garden is looking for help in repairing flood damage from recent storms. The garden is one of the many reasons that Culver City Real Estate is a popular place to look for a new home. A workday is scheduled for Saturday February 11th from 10-1 p.m. The Garden is a low impact project that captures and filters storm water runoff from nearby industrial parking lots and streets. It removes harmful pollutants and metals before the water reaches Ballona Creek. The garden includes native riparian vegetation to help with water quality and provides habitat for local wildlife. Volunteers should park on Jackson Avenue and meet at the end of Jackson at Ballona Creek.
Lastly, volunteers are needed for the Screenland 5K, which will take place Sunday morning on February 26th. Various shifts are available from 7-11 a.m. as course marshals, refreshment servers, registration table workers, and more. Martin Feinberg, Culver City Realtor, sees the race as a great way to enjoy the City’s movie studio connections. Volunteers will receive service hours, parking privileges, a Centennial Screenland 5K tee-shirt and refreshments. They are also eligible to win Swag Bag prizes.
