Martin Feinberg, Culver City Realtor, understands the power of local non-profits to make a big difference in people’s lives. Small means can bring about great things. This effect will be on display Saturday February 26th when local non-profit Milk + Bookies holds its annual fundraiser at HD Buttercup in Culver City.
Milk + Bookies helps get books to children who’s families would otherwise have a difficult time affording them. It was started in 2004 when Margaret Alexander decided she wanted to have more meaningful experiences with her small children. Instead of hosting a regular child’s party, she decided to throw a Milk + Bookies party at a local children’s bookstore, Storyopolis. The party included milk, cookies, and lots of reading. At the end of the event children were invited to choose a book that they wanted to give to a local child who didn’t have one. The party was a huge success. After hosting Milk + Bookies parties biannually for four years Alexander and two friends made it official by filing for non-profit tax exempt status, creating a website, and setting up class projects and community service hours.
Since then Milk + Bookies has helped more than 141,000 children in over 600 Title I schools and organizations throughout the nation. Alexander states that Milk + Bookies is really about teaching kids the importance of giving back to others. “We’ve found a simple but effective way to harness the innate goodness in children and then use it to impact lasting change on our community.”
This year’s Milk + Bookie fundraiser–“Story Time Celebration”–will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include many notable participants such as Adam Scot, Tiffani Theissen, Charlie Day, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Greg Grunberg, Julie Bowen, Katie Aselton , Mark Duplass, Mark Feuerstein, Norbert (the dog), Lindsay Sloane, Tom Everett Scott, David Walton among others. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at www.events.r20.constantcontact.com.
Culver City Real Estate offers easy access to this and many other amazing experiences. Martin Feinberg, Realtor, is looking forward to seeing all the good Milk + Bookies accomplishes in the future.
