The Culver Volleyball Club 16-Tanner defeats several teams to win the title at the 2016 Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) Summer Soiree tournament.
The 16-yr. old girls’ champion volleyball team is coached by Tanner Siegal. “It was a great team victory,” said Siegal, as the girls played hard to come back from a defeat by an Oregon team early in the tournament, and ultimately defeated that same team to take the title. The volleyball tournament was held in Anaheim, June 29 – July 2.
After their initial loss to the Spitfire Volleyball Club from Oregon, Culver topped 8th seeded Oaks VBC, #1 seed Surfside from Hermosa Beach, and then defeated #5 seed Laule’a from Hawaii, to reach the championship match against Oregon Spitfire. A top team indeed! As a top realtor in Culver City, I admire these female athletes and congratulate them on their victory.
Culver and Spitfire played excellent side-out volleyball, according to Siegal, but Culver couldn’t be stopped and ran with the win. Siegal was recently named Culver City High varsity volleyball coach and Eriko Gambol is his assistant.
Jessica Stewart, a Culver City High junior, led the 16-Tanner team, and sophomore Centaur setter Megan Shimoda also shined. Octavia Collins and Destiny Padilla were strong Centaur middle blowers and Culver’s libero Halen Anderson.
Culver Volleyball Club 16 Champions: (Standing L.) Eriko Gambol (Assistant Coach),
Jessica Stewart, Gloria Dominguez, Lauren Hechinger, Destiny Padilla, Octavia Collins,
Tanner Siegal (Head Coach). Megan Shimoda, Halen Anderson and Kylee Glickman (seated).
